Four incidents raise questions about US Navy operations | Bangkok Post: news

This combination of file photos show US Navy ships the 'USS Antietam' (top left), the 'USS Lake Champlain' (top right), the 'USS Fitzgerald' (bottom left) and the 'USS John S. McCain'. (US Navy via AP, AP Photos/File)One major US Navy collision may be an accident. No one was hurt in the first two incidents, but seven Navy sailors were killed in June in a collision between the USS Fitzgerald and a container ship off the coast of Japan. The Navy has ordered an "operational pause", which Mr Blaxland said makes sense "to explore what on Earth is happening". Navy officials continue to investigate the Fitzgerald collision, and analysts said the McCain accident may cause them to examine it further still.
